Palmer Trinity Partners with Special Olympics of South Florida
Palmer Trinity partnered with Special Olympics of South Florida to host the Unified Strides Track and Field Invitational. More than 60 athletes from Special Olympics and over 60 Palmer Trinity student volunteers came out to compete and demonstrate inclusion for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
The idea of hosting Unified Strides was developed by PTS senior and cross-country/track captain, Daniella Perez-Cartaya, who also serves as vice president of the Best Buddies Club. On the day of the race, PTS student-athletes competed together with athletes from Special Olympics in a unified 1500-meter race, a 4x100-meter relay, and a 4x400-meter relay.
Thank you to @specialo_sofla and @opa_athletics for providing our students with this amazing opportunity to promote inclusion for individuals with developmental disabilities.
