World Cultures STEM Challenge: Pyramid Building & Mummified Apples

In our 6th-grade World Cultures history class, students dove into an exciting hands-on STEM challenge inspired by ancient Egypt’s fascinating innovations. They built model pyramids and experimented with preserving apples inside canopic jars—just like ancient Egyptians preserved their treasures and mummies. Along the way, students used critical thinking and problem-solving skills to tackle obstacles and figure out creative solutions.

Throughout the challenge, they kept track of their progress, reflected on their decisions, and analyzed their results, much like historians do when they piece together historical events to see the bigger picture of cause and effect. This activity wasn’t just about the final product—it was about the journey. Students learned the value of documenting their steps, recognizing challenges, and finding solutions, all while making meaningful connections between STEM and history.
